Day 2 of NCAA East Regional Eliminates 4 Cats -- 13 Still Alive for Decisive Saturday Races


Friday at the NCAA East Regional saw one Villanovan advance to the decisive Saturday races, but three others were eliminated from the competition.

Shericka Ward finished 2nd in heat #4 of the 100 meter hurdles preliminaries, running 13.40. She automatically qualified for Saturday's races (3 heats of 8 runners each), which will produce the 12 athletes (top 3 in each heat, plus next 3 fastest) to make Nationals in the event.

Eliminated on Friday were Ariann Neutts (2:10.15 -- 8th in heat #2 of the 800 meters), Sarah Morrison (11:03.38 -- 41st in the 3000 meter steeplechase), Nicoy Hines (52.35 -- 7th in heat #1 in the 400 meter hurdles), and Audrey Gariepy-Bogui (5'-10" -- 13th in the high jump).

The 13 Villanova athletes still with a chance on Saturday to qualify for the National meet at Drake are:

* Shericka Ward: 100 meter hurdles + 4x400 meter relay (heat #3)
* Sheila Reid: 1500 meters (heat #2) + 5000 meters (heat #1)
* Emily Lipari: 1500 meters (heat #1)
* Matt Gibney: 1500 meters (heat #1)
* Brian Tetreault: 1500 meters (heat #1)
* Ali Smith: 5000 meters (heat #1)
* Bogdana Mimic: 5000 meters (heat #1)
* Mathew Mildenhall: 5000 meters (heat #1)
* Hugo Beamish: 5000 meters (heat #2)
* Brian Long: 5000 meters (heat #1)
* Kristen Mahon: 4x400 meter relay (heat #3)
* Jessona McDonald: 4x400 meter relay (heat #3)
* Ashley Dunbar: 4x400 meter relay (heat #3)
