What's on Tap for Nicole Schappert?

Recent Villanova All-American Nicole Schappert, who runs for the New Jersey-New York Track Club under the mentorship of Frank "Gags" Gagliano, has two high-profile races coming up.

First, Nicole will compete in the CVS Caremark Downtown 5k in Boston at 11:15 a.m. on September 18, 2011. The race serves as the 2011 USATF 5K Road National Championship. The last Villanova women to run near the front of the race was in 2009 when Jen Rhines finished third in 15:31.

Next, Nicole will compete in this year's prestigious 5th Avenue Mile on September 24, 2011. The race starts on Manhattan’s famed Fifth Avenue near East 80th Street, in the heart of the so-called "Museum Mile." From there it heads one mile south on Fifth Avenue to the finish at East 60th Street.

Nicole earned All-American honors as a miler and as a member of Villanova's 2009 national championship in cross country. Both of her parents were Villanova All-American athletes (Jane in swimming and Ken in track). Nicole's younger sister Stephanie, a two-time Florida individual state champion in cross country, is a freshman at Villanova this fall, attending on a track scholarship.
