The Villanova women rebounded nicely today from a poor performance two weeks ago at Pre-Nationals by finishing a competitive fourth at the Big East cross country championship meet in Wisconsin. Running without its top-five scorer Angel Piccarillo, the women from Villanova were led by seniors Emily Lipari (who finished as conference runner-up after winning the individual title in 2012) and Nicky Akande (who came 12th overall). Lipari was unable to live with the pace established by Providence's Emily Sisson (19:49), who came home ahead of Lipari (19:56) and Providence's Sarah Collins (19:58). National #4 Providence won its showdown with #3 ranked Georgetown, winning the team title with a very low 28 places to the Hoyas' 47. Big East newcomer #7 Butler (66 places) was third to Villanova's 93.

Villanova's scoring was helped by a strong effort from Sydney Harris who held tight to #3 Stephanie Schappert. The team's three freshmen -- Julie Williams, Caitlin Bungo, and Katie Brislin -- gained valuable experience. With Piccarillo's absence, Williams was Villanova's final scorer in 34th/31st place.
