Blincoe 4th, Curtis 7th at B.A.A. 5K

Two former Villanova champions finished well over the weekend in a very competitive 5k road race in Boston. Former NCAA champion over 3000 meters and New Zealand national record holder over 5000 meters Adrian Blincoe finished 4th in 13:46, five seconds off the race winner Ben True. Blincoe already has the Olympic "A" standard and is all but set to represent New Zealand in the London Olympics later this summer. It will be Blincoe's second Olympic berth.

Bobby Curtis, who won the 2006 NCAA title over 5000 meters but who focuses now on the 10,000 meters, came 7th in 13:52. Curtis was 2nd in this event last year and, despite a 7th this year, ran much faster than in 2011, when he ran 14:07. The old course record was 14:07, and was broken by the top 11 finishers this year. Curtis is gearing up for the US Olympic Trials, where he will attempt to make his first Olympic team, at 10,000 meters. He also holds the Olympic "A" standard, and needs a top 3 finish at the Olympic Trials. Both results show that two of Villanova's Olympic hopefuls are progressing nicely in their build-up to the key races later in the summer.
