Marcus O'Sullivan Wants English Out of Ireland
As the video below shows, Marcus O'Sullivan paid a visit to the Letterkenny AC in Donegal, Ireland recently. One of Letterkenny's stars is 17-year old Mark English, who recently won the Irish senior national indoor 800 meter title (1:51.62). The Donegal Daily described the race this way: "The men’s 800m promised to be the race of the meet and it didn’t disappoint. However, it was the manner in which Mark English won the race that was most impressive. The Letterkenny junior took over the lead from early on and looked to be doing the hard work for his rivals. They had every opportunity to overtake, but at the end of an exciting race it was English who simply demolished the field to win comfortably in a time of 1:51.62. Behind there was a great battle for the minor placings with Darren McBrearty (Letterkenny AC) taking second in 1:52.08, ahead of Niall Tuohy (Ferrybank AC) third 1:52.06, and Eoin Everard just edged out of the medals in fourth in 1:52.34."
In May 2010, English ran 2:24.53 for 1000 meters, in winning the event title at the inaugural European Youth Olympic Trials in Moscow, Russia. In January of this year, English broke the Irish Junior record at 800 meters when he ran 1:48.63. He'll represent Ireland at the European Junior Championships in Tallinn, Estonia in July.
