Villanova's Emily Lipari has been named the Mid-Atlantic Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coach's Association. Here's what the USTFCCCA had to say about Lipari:
MID-ATLANTIC REGION – Emily Lipari – Villanova
A junior from Rosslyn, N.Y., Lipari anchored the winning DMR team at
Armory Collegiate with a 4:34 split for the 1600 meters leg to give
team a then-collegiate-leading 10:56.79. She ran three events at Big
East Championships en route to Big East Track Athlete of the Meet
honors, winning at 1000m (2:46.19) and as the anchor of the 4×800 relay
(2:06 split with a 59 second last lap), and finishing seventh in mile
in 4:46.68.
They could have added that last weekend Lipari set an 11-second PR over 3000 meters to run the 14th fastest time in the country this season and thereby to earn a spot at the NCAA Indoor Nationals. She is the only Villanova female athlete to earn an individual spot at Nationals (both the men's and women's DMR also made Nationals, while Sam Ellison (800 meters) and Rob Denault (mile) will compete individually for the men).
