Hugo Beamish in his Villanova days
In the build-up for the New Zealand track and field championships in three weeks time, former Big East 5000 meter champion Hugo Beamish competed yesterday in Auckland over 1500 meters. Despite the race being below his optimal distance, Beamish showed good speed and set a new 1500 meter PR of 3:45.49 in coming fourth in a very competitive field. Beamish is being coached by former Villanova NCAA champion and assistant coach Adrian Blincoe. The race was won by Olympic silver medalist Nick Willis, who came up short of the 3:35.00 "A" standard for this year's world championships in Russia.
