Wildcats Win Five Events at Danny Curran Invitational
Katherine Petruzzellis throws for career best distance in javelin

CHESTER, Pa. - Villanova won five of the nine events it entered at the Danny Curran Invitational at Leslie C. Quick, Jr., Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The local meet saw the Wildcats compete in one running event and eight field events.
Sophomores Jamie Klein (Hawthorne, N.J.) and Katherine Petruzzellis (Annandale, N.J.) came in first and second, respectively, in the javelin. Klein threw for 42.13 meters and was the winner out of 21 competitors, while Petruzzellis was the runner-up with a mark of 38.24 meters. That distance is a new personal best for Petruzzellis, who broke her top mark for the second time in as many weeks.
Villanova also scored wins in the high jump, triple jump, pole vault and 800 meters. Junior Samantha Yeats (Califon, N.J.) took first in the high jump by clearing a height of 1.67 meters and Petruzzellis tied for third in the competition with a height of 1.57 meters. Freshman Anne Yahiro (Downers Grove, Ill.) won the triple jump with a mark of 11.21 meters and junior Victoria Profit (Nissequogue, N.Y.) finished in fourth place (11.10 meters). Yahiro also finished third in the long jump (5.27 meters).
In the pole vault sophomore Kathleen McPhillips (Carlisle, Pa.) was first out of 16 competitors with a height of 3.75 meters. Freshman Virginia LaMacchia (Bloomsburg, Pa.) tied for second place in the field and cleared a height of 3.60 meters. Freshman Abigail Nolte (Branchburg, N.J.) came in fifth (3.45 meters).
Senior Anna Francis (Brookhaven, N.Y.) and sophomore Amanda Borroughs (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) were the top two finishers out of 34 runners in the 800 meters. Francis placed first with a time of 2:16.35 and Borroughs was the runner-up, crossing the finish line in 2:17.69.
In the throws freshman Alita Ostapkovich (Bensalem, Pa.) competed in the shot put, discus and hammer. She came in 10th in the shot put (10.67 meters), ninth in the discus (29.40 meters) and fifth in the hammer (36.78 meters).
