Wildcats Continue Outdoor Season at Danny Curran Invitational

Team competed in 10 events at local meet

CHESTER, Pa. - In the Danny Curran Invitational on Saturday afternoon Villanova competed in 10 different events at Leslie C. Quick, Jr., Stadium, including five running events and five field events. Three different athletes from the Wildcats registered new personal bests in their respective events.

Villanova had a group of five runners in the 400 meters and senior Philip O'Connell (Rye, N.Y.) placed third in that group with a career best time of 52.45. He came in fifth in his heat and 20th overall in a field of 61 runners. Finishing ahead of him for the Wildcats were senior Kyle Chou (Wilmington, Del.) in second place (50.02) and sophomore Matt Whalen (Reading, Mass.) in 12th place (51.56).

In the 400 meter hurdles freshman Joseph Messick (Montgomery, N.J.) finished in fourth place out of 22 competitors. His time of 56.40 was a personal best for the second straight meet. The other Villanova athlete with a top individual performance was sophomore Ryan Milanaik in the javelin. He threw for a distance of 45.32 meters. Classmates Chris Glennie (Fallsington, Pa.) and Connor Milanaik finished eighth (53.38m) and 11th (51.65m), respectively, in the javelin.

A group of four runners ran in the 1500 meters and junior Chris O'Sullivan (Havertown, Pa.) registered a fourth place finish out of 68 entries. He came in with a time of 3:57.85 and was just ahead of junior Dan Harris (Clifton Park, N.Y.), who placed seventh in 3:59.92. Juniors Richie Bohny (Holmdel, N.J.) and Chris Pietrocarlo (Hampstead, N.H.) came in 17th (4:04.92) and 21st (4:07.72), respectively.
